The goal of the Frisian Lakes Project was to make Fryslân even more attractive as a water sports destination and to stimulate the Frisian economy. The project started in 2000 and is now nearing completion. The second phase focuses on capitalizing on previous investments, innovation, nature, and sustainability. Together with the involved municipalities, the province developed master plans for key water sports hubs and gateways. For Workum, this includes the new harbor at Stedspôle, the new Klameare, and the harbor built on the site of the former Klameare.
We are very pleased with these wonderful new facilities and would like to offer a gift to the city of Workum as a token of appreciation. The beautiful harbor at Stedspôle has already been widely used last summer. To make the area even more attractive for (sailing) tourists with children, and to create an extra play area for the children of Workum, we would like to install a beautiful playground structure in the shape of a ship on the pôle. A solid and sustainable play structure that perfectly fits the harbor setting. Plaatselijk Belang has allocated a budget for this (after approval from its members).
In August 2017, the play ship was put into use.
