Museum Warkums Erfskip

EXPERIENCE WORKUM FROM THE WAAG!

Museum Warkums Erfskip was completely renovated from top to bottom in 2016/2017 and is now a museum that meets the demands and wishes of today. The new museum concept ‘Experience Workum from the Waag’ is beautifully designed with models, stories, and multimedia. The museum has become the perfect starting point to discover and admire the many highlights of the beautiful city of Workum!

Koffship Captain Huijte Fookles
In the attic of De Waag, you can listen to the thrilling stories of the 18th-century koffship captain Huijte Fookles. In December 1777, Huijte was caught in a storm and stranded on the French beach near Soulac. In a letter from his shipowner, he was advised to unload the cargo and dismantle the ship. This letter was rediscovered by chance a few years ago in The National Archives in London. The KRO program “Brieven boven water” featured this story.

In this permanent exhibition, you can listen to his life story while viewing objects and images. Children especially find it very exciting to visit this attic display!
