Town Hall of Workum

The oldest part of the building dates from the 15th century. In 1727, it received new facades and a different roof, designed by Simon Galtema. In the attic, there is a cachot (prison cell). Access is via a staircase with a landing (1953). The painted gilt leather wallpaper and the stucco ceiling in the council chamber date from 1773.

During the municipal reorganization of 1984, it became the town hall of Nijefurd. After merging into the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân in 2011, the building no longer serves as a town hall.

The former town hall is located on the Merk. The adjacent building is the ‘Friese Huisje’, which was added to the town hall in 1620. Also nearby are the weigh house and the Grote of Sint-Gertrudiskerk.
