For centuries, the city coat of arms on ‘De Waag’ in Workum has been supported by two lions. They appear naive, and their theatrical pose brings a smile to our faces. But as the fountain of Workum, firmly grounded and larger than life, they are no longer side figures but take center stage. Standing apart, they now spray water at each other like fighting cats. “Look at Workum,” they seem to call out to us. Without the coat of arms, the empty space between them suddenly offers a view of the vibrant reality of the city.
