IJsboerderij Margje 24

Margje 24 is a calf that symbolizes our ice cream farm.
Before we began developing the ice cream business, we spent a long time choosing the right name – and that became Margje 24. A unique and memorable name.

Why Margje 24?
Margje 24 represents a new beginning. A few years ago, we changed our breeding goals to raise stronger cows than the typical Holstein, aiming for cows that stay longer on the farm.
We started crossbreeding three lines: Fleckvieh, Scandinavian Red, and Holstein – all in one modern cow.
Margje 24 was one of the first and very special to us.

Her lineage
Margje 24 comes from a good line. Her sweet grandmother Margje 100 still lives on the farm. Her mother, Margje 427, was inseminated with a Norwegian Red bull named Halsne.
Margje 427 is the daughter of Margje 100 and the Fleckvieh bull Rumba from Austria. Margje 100 is the daughter of the Dutch Holstein bull Katshaar Kirby.

Is Margje 24 still here?
We hoped her birth would coincide with our farm’s opening, but she arrived on December 5, 2011.
She lived with us for many years and had five calves. Sadly, she passed away in November 2017 from an internal abscess.
Her daughters and granddaughters still live on our farm.
